ALLIANT SYSTEMS RECOGNIZED FOR SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS
Beaverton company joins SHARP Program

Oregon OSHA will welcome Alliant Systems of Beaverton to the Safety and Health
Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) in a June 27 presentation at the company’s
Beaverton headquarters.

SHARP provides an incentive for Oregon employers to work with their employees to find and
correct hazards, develop and implement effective safety and health programs, and continuously
improve. The ultimate goal of SHARP is to encourage businesses to become self-sufficient in
managing workplace safety and health issues. Currently, 134 employers in Oregon participate in
SHARP, including 64 companies who have graduated from the program.

Alliant Systems designs and builds mechanical HVAC systems, providing comprehensive
consulting, engineering, and preventive maintenance on all types of commercial projects.
Employing 140 workers, the company began working toward SHARP about a year ago.

“Before joining SHARP, we sometimes struggled to identify where we should focus next
regarding safety,” said Alliant Systems President John Rozell. “The SHARP program has solved
that problem by providing a process of continuous improvement that fits well with our company
culture. It has helped us improve our entire organization.”

Participation in SHARP does not eliminate Oregon OSHA regulatory enforcement. Employees
retain all workplace safety and health rights contained in the Oregon Safe Employment Act.
Oregon employers that have been in business for more than one year are eligible to apply for
SHARP regardless of size or type of business.
