Sr. BAS Controls Engineer

ABOUT THE JOB:
The Senior BAS Controls Engineer will work closely with the controls manager and the mechanical design/build division of the company. This position includes attending internal and external project meetings, collaborating with mechanical engineers to develop sequences of operations, and helping the company deliver superior systems and projects.
This position will also attend turnover meetings, create submittal packages, material ordering and application engineering development. Documenting and maintaining company and client standards, and assisting in preparing and conducting owner training. In addition to the “hardware engineering” this person will also be responsible for the programming or “software engineering” required for a project. The output from the design engineering department will be a complete set of installation/submittal/shop drawings, orders for all equipment and material required, software programming and graphics generation. The engineer may then work with the project manager or project engineer to coordinate the installation and commissioning of a project with subcontractor’s and DDC controls technicians. Some travel and job site visits may be required.

Interpret project specifications and mechanical/electrical schematics.

Develop a set of controls drawings that captures scope of work while strictly adhering to project specifications.

Compile a complete set of DDC submittal documents for client review.

Create and maintain a comprehensive project schedule.

Produce and deliver change order pricing (COP) as requested by client.

Create, submit and track RFI’s, COP’s, and changes to original project scope.

Submit and track materials orders through appropriate channels in a timely manner.

Create and/or modify programming of systems through company software programming language.

Coordinate work with installation tech and other trades as required.

Set up network and system software.

Point-to-point commissioning assistance (in conjunction with installation tech).

Pre-functional commissioning of systems.

Assist commissioning agent with functional testing and documentation of system performance.

Review and modify graphical user interface to meet customer needs.

Coordinate and communicate regularly with project manager.

Ensure final project is fully and accurately documented.

Close-out documentation, warranty letter issuance.

Client training and orientation.

Translate growth opportunities to sales department.

Continually enforces safety to the highest standards.
REQUIREMENTS:

In depth knowledge of building systems including DDC control systems (BACnet preferred).

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in building controls sales, installation or operations.

Commercial building operations or building energy management.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, construction management, mechanical engineering or sustainable building science is preferred, but not required.

A thorough understanding of DDC control systems, building mechanical & electrical systems, HVAC equipment and building operations.

Ability to interface with Alliant Systems sales team, operations team and clients at the C level, D level, building engineers and property managers.

Strong customer service and customer relationship skills

Troubleshooting, start up or commissioning/retro-commissioning of mechanical systems.

A thorough understanding of DDC control systems, building mechanical & electrical systems, HVAC equipment and building operations.

Maintain a valid drivers’ license and satisfactory driving record.

Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification preferred.
-
Level II Building Operator Certification BOC preferred.
-
Certified Facility Manager (CFM) preferred.
-
Existing Building Commissioning Professional or Commissioning Authority certification preferred.

Represent Alliant as a world class controls contractor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
-
Ability to sit, stand, or walk throughout the day, bending, squatting, lift overhead up to 20 pounds, hand and wrist work, climbing ladders, carrying equipment and tools.

While at jobsites, ability to recognize and avoid hazardous conditions and observe safety practices.

Must be capable of working ten to twelve hour days when job/business needs demand.
