Controls System Programmer

ABOUT THE JOB:

This position is primarily in support of new installations and projects as well as periodic support to the Service Department group if needed.

 

Perform start up functions on selected systems based on project plans, specifications, and other contract documents. Provide analysis of building control and HVAC system performance at an individual building/component level. Ensure documentation is accurate and complete. Provide project-engineering support as required.

 

Responsible for taking engineered controls drawings and sequence of operations and create data bases, programs, graphics for all size projects\systems. Ability to implement programs, commission, filed and functional test controls systems holistically (as a system). Work to assist BAS with analytics and FDD hardware installation and network connectivity.

 

  • Control program use, including trend logs, zones, alarms, reports, back up, graphics, Visio and AutoCAD

  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, data (network) systems

  • Ability to manage/direct additional technicians on assigned projects

  • Oversee sub-contractors (electric) installation and provide direction/guidance

  • Checkout of DDC control components and systems (point to point)

  • Start up of BAS control and HVAC systems (document system start up)

  • Commissioning of BAS control and HVAC systems

  • Record and update drawings (as-built)

  • Execute field changes/directives as needed

  • Troubleshoot component and equipment problems

  • System and BAS training (owner and peer)

  • Assist Project Engineer with field tasks/coordination

  • Panel construction as needed (field built and office built)

  • Field documentation (as build drawings, check-out sheets)

  • Manage time to complete assignments on time and within budget

  • Assist sales team with estimates as needed

  • Manage field labor job cost on assigned projects

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Required experience: 5+ years of experience in building automation controls and/or mechanical or electrical construction project management

  • Required education: high school or GED required

  • BS/BA in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred

  • Strong interactive and communication skills

  • Strong customer service and customer relationship skills

  • Knowledge of DDC Control Theory and Applications

  • Microsoft Office Suite experience

  • Tridium (Niagara N4 Certification)

  • Distech certification is preferred

  • Experience with large high-rise buildings (250k to 1 million SF and larger is preferred)

  • HVAC and/or mechanical system experience

  • Basic knowledge of Tridium\Niagara

  • Familiar with Distech controls (preferred)

  • Maintain a valid drivers’ license and satisfactory driving record

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk throughout the day, bending, squatting, lift overhead up to 20 pounds, hand and wrist work, climbing ladders, carrying equipment and tools.

  • While at jobsites, ability to recognize and avoid hazardous conditions and observe safety practices.

  • Must be capable of working ten to twelve hour days when job/business needs demand.
