Alliant Systems is currently serving as the design assist mechanical contractor for Central Lincoln People’s Utility District’s (CLPUD) new $26.5 million administration headquarters in Newport, Oregon. Currently under construction on CLPUD’s existing campus, the two-story, 27,500 SF facility will replace the District’s existing 1981 headquarters with a modern, highly resilient critical facility designed to support essential utility operations for decades to come. The new building will house administrative, operations, engineering, and information technology functions, along with a small vehicle maintenance component, and is located outside the tsunami zone on stable ground approximately 145 feet above sea level.

The project is being designed and constructed to address the unique resiliency needs of a coastal utility provider. CLPUD’s existing headquarters was not designed to withstand a major earthquake, creating a critical need for a facility capable of remaining operational during and following a seismic event. Alliant’s design-assist involvement provides early mechanical expertise and constructability input, helping the project team develop reliable, efficient systems that support the building’s critical functions while integrating with the architectural and structural requirements of the new facility.

The new headquarters is being constructed adjacent to CLPUD’s existing building, allowing the utility to remain fully operational throughout construction and minimizing disruption to essential services. Once the new facility is complete, the existing headquarters will be removed and the site transformed into parking and landscaped areas. The project also supports the local coastal economy, with site excavation, underground utilities, and foundation work performed by local contractors and the construction workforce contributing to Newport-area businesses throughout the project.
