Portland Metro Area
Alliant systems has served as a preferred contractor for Kaiser Permanente in the Portland and Southwest Washington geographic area for over 15 years, servicing and completing almost 70 mechanical construction projects both independently and in tandem with a variety of general contractors. The projects have ranged in contract size from $5K to over $3 M, and many were completed within occupied and sensitive healthcare environments.
The following is a partial list of the complex projects that were successfully delivered for Kaiser Permanente:
• Mental Health Renovation
• Nurse Stations and Reception Renovation
• Kaiser Histology Department
• Cytogenetic Gas Line
• Kaiser Rockwood Renovation
• Kaiser Lab Exhaust Improvements
One of the more significant projects Alliant has completed for Kaiser is the Northwest Regional Laboratory in Portland, Oregon. Built to house the largest automated blood testing line west of the Mississippi, the lab infrastructure included 100% OSA and exhaust air handling with heat recovery, hydronic systems, lab gasses, and RODI for both grade two and near grade three areas. The 40,000 square foot lab also included an additional 10,000 square feet of non-lab administrative spaces.
Because this project retrofitted new equipment into an old building, the existing structure required major structural upgrades to support the new systems. Physical coordination of the new systems and equipment with the additional structural components was achieved with detailed 3-D CAD lay-out drawings. Extensive prefabrication of ductwork and piping systems allowed the construction schedule to be maintained, despite the extended period required for the structural upgrades. A design-build GMP project, this extensive planning process allowed Alliant to complete the project on time and reduce the final price by over $250 K.
