Multnomah County East County Library

Gresham, Oregon

Alliant was chosen to provide mechanical design-assist construction services for the new Multnomah County East County Library, situated at 1297 NW Eastman Parkway in Gresham. This nearly 95,000 square foot structure is located on the former site of the Gresham City Hall Park and Ride, marking a significant transformation for the area. Serving as the county's second-largest library, it will stand as a prominent addition alongside the downtown Central branch.

Among its notable features, the library boasts an auditorium, a dedicated space for teenagers, a café, a children's play area, communal outdoor spaces, technology hubs, and a spacious maker space. Utilizing CLT construction, a favored material in contemporary building practices, this project aims to blend innovative design with sustainable construction methods.

Alliant Systems led the plumbing, HVAC, and piping systems coordination and installation for the project. Special features include radiant flooring, AERMEC Air to Water Heat Pumps (AWHP), two-pipe slab recessed Jaga forced air convection units, AAON Air Handing Units (AHU), beautiful plumbing fixtures and features, hydronic piping and more.

This project was a CLT challenge and took a large BIM coordination effort from our in-house modeling team. Significant effort was taken to coordinate prefabricated penetration locations in the CLT decking, and it was crucial to keep our mechanical and plumbing systems hidden to let the CLT be the main feature of the space.
